Setup
MiniMax Code Setup: Desktop, Web and mcode
Understand the MiniMax Code app, its mcode terminal agent and the right setup path for a first project.
MiniMax Code is an app; M3.1 Flash is a model
MiniMax Code is the coding product and mcode is its terminal coding agent. M3.1 Flash is a model available through MiniMax services. They are related, but the product name and model name answer different questions.
Choose desktop, web or terminal
Use the official MiniMax Code page for current desktop downloads and supported systems. The product also documents browser-based tasks and continuing work across devices. The terminal path is useful when you want an agent in an existing repository; the desktop app is a more guided entry point. Confirm regional and operating-system availability on the current product page.
Start a terminal project
The documented global CLI flow is to install the official package, sign in, then run it from a project directory. Use the current official CLI documentation for exact installation commands and version requirements; those can change. After opening a repository, inspect the proposed diff and run the project’s own checks before accepting changes.
Account and usage
MiniMax Code access and M Plan usage depend on your account and selected product. See M Plan tiers and usage windows for quota rules. The separate mmx platform CLI is not the same tool as mcode; use the MiniMax CLI guide to choose the right one.
This guide follows official documentation and has not been independently tested on every operating system. Next, see setup guides for Claude Code, Codex or OpenCode.
